Suharto was hospitalised three days ago, after falling ill at his home, which he has rarely left since mass protests and economic turmoil in 1998 ended his 32-year iron-grip and often brutal rule in Indonesia. "There has been no regression, the status quo is still more or less maintained," Marjo Soebiandono, who heads a team of doctors caring for the former leader in Jakarta, told AFP. As the condition of the 86-year-old continued to be monitored closely, his former political party, the Golkar Party, asked the government to drop all legal cases against him. "We have sent out a written statement to the various concerned institutions and individuals, including the attorney general and the president, asking that all legal cases against Suharto be dropped," party chairman Theo Sambuaga said.

The championship game of the Arby's Classic was close early as Memphis Briarcrest opened up a 19-16 advantage behind Leslie McDonald (No.17/2009) and Elgin Lee, who combined for ten points to overcome 14 points that Archbishop Carroll's Kris Joseph and Rodney McGruder scored in the opening quarter. The D.C. duo, helped by some tough defense, dominated the second quarter to build a 32-27 half-time advantage. The second half belonged to tourney MVP McDonald, who led a late charge by Briarcrest. With Carroll up 53-52 with just over five minutes to play, McDonald led a 14-3 run to put Briarcrest up 67-56 as they held on to win a 71-61 decision over D.C. Carroll. Briarcrest was led by McDonald, who finished with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. He got solid support from Elgin Lee who contributed 21 points, while Gregg Wooten added 19 points, including four threes.

Manchester United moved to within a point of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a comfortable win over Derby, while Portsmouth, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton also recorded three-point hauls. In the day's early kick-off Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth were too strong on their travels to Aston Villa, before at 3 o'clock Everton brushed aside Fulham at Goodison Park and Newcastle built on their impressive midweek display against Arsenal with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Birmingham. In the evening kick-off Reading ended Liverpool's unbeaten record in the Premier League with a 3-1 win at the Madejski Stadium. Second half goals from Kevin Doyle and James Harper gave Reading a shock victory to dent Liverpool's title hopes.
